Step into the world of professional pattern making and learn how garments are truly created—from the foundation up.

This intensive, hands-on block is designed to introduce you to the logic, structure, and artistry behind skirt construction. You’ll learn how to draft your own skirt block from personal measurements, master fit and balance, and transform a single base into multiple designs using professional modeling techniques.

If you’re ready to move beyond commercial patterns and start creating garments with precision and intention, this is your essential first step.

Why This Course Matters

A well-made garment starts with a well-built pattern. In this course, you won’t just follow instructions—you’ll understand why things work, giving you the freedom to design, adjust, and create with confidence.

Perfect For

• Confident beginners with sewing experience
• Intermediate sewists
• Students ready to begin pattern making
• Anyone who wants to truly understand skirt fit and construction

How the Course Works

Each session combines clear instruction with hands-on practice in a structured, supportive environment:

• Technical explanations made simple
• Live step-by-step drafting demonstrations
• Guided hands-on drafting
• Individual fit corrections and adjustments
• Structured homework to reinforce learning

You’ll follow a professional atelier workflow:

Draft → Mock-up → Fit → Correct → Model

What You’ll Learn

• How to take accurate, professional body measurements
• How to draft a straight skirt block from scratch
• Understanding waist-to-hip balance and silhouette control
• How to identify and correct fit issues
• How to transform one base into multiple designs

You’ll create 3 skirt variations:

• Straight skirt
• Godet skirt
• Technically modeled skirt (A-line, shaped, or bias-inspired variation)

Project Development

To fully understand fit and construction, you’ll complete a sewn skirt project at home.

Your straight skirt will be used as a mock-up or finished sample, allowing you to test fit, analyze balance, and refine your pattern. In class, we will review your garment, identify issues, and apply professional corrections to improve your results.

Homework

Between sessions, you’ll build your skills through structured assignments:

• Refining your draft
• Applying pattern corrections
