Pattern Making Course – Week-by-Week Program

6 weeks – 2 times a week - 4 hours per class ( Wednesdays and Fridays)

Weeks 1–2 – Introduction & Dress Base

• Understanding measurements and body proportions

• Tools, paper types, and drafting basics

• Drafting a basic dress block (bodice & skirt) to your measurements

• Creating darts, shaping, and seam lines

• Homework: Complete your base dress pattern at home

Weeks 3–4 – Dress Remodeling

• Creating 5 dress variations:

  1. Fitted dress

  2. Shirt dress

  3. Jacket-style dress

  4. Color-block dress

  5. Sleeve variations (puff, bell, fitted, short, long)

• Homework: Draft at least 2 dress variations

Weeks 5–6 – Pants Base & Remodeling

• Drafting the basic pants block

• Proper waist, hip, rise, and inseam adjustments

• Creating 3 pants variations:

  1. Dress pants

  2. Banana pants

  3. Palazzo pants

• Homework: Draft 1 pants variation for review

Weeks 7–8 – Skirt Base

• Drafting the basic skirt block

• Waist shaping and dart placement

• Adjusting for perfect fit

• Homework: Finish your base skirt pattern

Weeks 9–10

Skirt Remodeling

• Creating 5 skirt variations:

  1. Pencil skirt

  2. Sun & semi-sun skirt

  3. A-line skirt

  4. Asymmetric skirt

  5. Godet skirt

• Homework: Draft at least 2 skirt variations

Refinement & Final Project

• Reviewing all base blocks and remodels

• Making final corrections and adjustments

• Preparing patterns for sewing

• Tips for storing, labeling, and reusing patterns

• Final Q&A and course wrap-up

By the end of the course you will:

• Have three base blocks (dress, pants, skirt)

• Be able to create 13 variations from those bases

• Understand professional drafting, remodeling, and fitting techniques
